Go Ask Alys

On my trip west my BFF and I visited plenty of scenic places and met wonderful folks and scads of terrific canines. One of the most memorable places was Alys' Restaurant. Please hum along. Yes, you can get anything you want, provided it is what is being offered that day and what she offers is fabulous food and genuinely marvelous service.

There's a story. Isn't there always.

Alys offers 4 or 5 main courses each evening; $25/person, includes dessert but not the coffee or wine. There were two of us; I had a glass of wine. After soup, salad, main selection, dessert packed "to go", coffee and wine we departed, strolling in the rain, back to the 1899 Inn. Shortly upon our return the innkeeper, Jill, told us Alys had called and we were to call her. You already see we were well-known and everyone in town is on a first name basis. We'd had our first encounter with Oliver, the previously acknowledged lost and sad dog. The call was made. It seemed we OVER TIPPED substantially and the staff and Alys felt it best to let us know!!! We indicated it was our mistake. Keep it. NO. COME GET IT. Keep half of it. NO. YOU'D MISS IT.

Good grief! The least we can do is rave about Alys' in La Veta!!!! Go there. Enjoy the people, the food, the place. Bless their hearts for the honesty displayed. It was gratifying and restorative!

OK - this was a stretch in terms of mentioned "paw" critters but Oliver's name is included and his story was just posted before this one. Plus I am told that La Veta people are gracious and wonderful and good to their pets. The retired owner of the Inn has cat(s). While she was away one night her son had to come stay in her apartment with the cat(s) so there's additional evidence.
